Which Luxor transfer do you need?

Luxor transfers fall into three groups: the short hop from the airport to your hotel or cruise boat, the long road to the Red Sea resorts, and the run south to Aswan. Platform prices are for a private car with a driver; the DIY column is what most independent travelers use instead.

Route Distance Private car time Platform price from DIY alternative Best for

Luxor airport to your hotel

Luxor International Airport sits about 6–7 km east of the town center. Most hotels and the cruise boats moored along the Corniche are 15–25 minutes away by car. The West Bank takes longer — about 25–35 minutes — because the road bridge crosses the Nile south of town.

A pre-booked transfer from about $7 is the easy option after a late flight: the price is fixed and nobody needs to haggle at midnight. The most-reviewed listing charges the same for East and West Bank hotels and asks you to book at least three hours before landing.

Without a booking, official taxis wait outside the arrivals hall. They aren't metered, so agree the fare before you get in. Recent guides put a fair price at roughly 150–250 EGP (about $3–5) to the East Bank and report opening quotes of 300–400 EGP. Careem works in Luxor for about 100–200 EGP, but cars at the airport aren't always available, and you'll need mobile data to book.

Hurghada to Luxor (and back)

The road from Hurghada crosses the Eastern Desert to the Nile and runs south to Luxor: about 280–300 km. Private transfers quote about four hours; allow more for checkpoints and a coffee stop. The most-reviewed listing starts at about $80 and runs one way or return.

GoBus runs several departures a day between Hurghada and Luxor bus stations, and the trip takes roughly 4.5 to 6 hours. It costs a small fraction of a private car; check the current fare and timetable on go-bus.com, and add a taxi at each end. If you're coming only to sightsee, look at a day trip from Hurghada instead — guided day trips with the road transfer built in start at about $56 per person, less than a private car one way.

Private cars to the Red Sea

US-dollar prices come from each platform's own feed and were checked on October 21, 2026. Dates and group size change them — the booking page has the final price.

Aswan to Luxor

Between Aswan and Luxor a private car takes just over three hours on the desert highway, or about four and a half on the slower road along the Nile. Private transfers start at about $80 from Luxor and about $90 from Aswan. Ask before booking whether stops are allowed: a few listings combine the transfer with the temples at Edfu and Kom Ombo, which turns three hours in a car into a day of sightseeing — see day trips from Luxor.

The train is the cheap alternative, at about three and a half hours with regular departures. The leisurely alternative is a Nile cruise between Aswan and Luxor, three or four nights with the temples on the way.

Marsa Alam and Safaga

Marsa Alam is the longest regular transfer, about 300–350 km on either of two desert roads to the Nile valley, and four to five hours by car. Private cars start at about $136, but the listing has a lower rating than other routes on this page, so read the recent reviews. For a short visit, a two-day trip from Marsa Alam with a hotel night is usually simpler. Cruise passengers docking at Safaga have their own shore excursions — see Luxor from Safaga port.

Taxi, GoBus or train: the honest comparison

Option Cost Time Comfort Risk
Pre-booked private car from about $7 (airport) to $136 (Marsa Alam) fastest AC car, door to door Low; fixed price
Airport taxi about 150–250 EGP, agreed 15–35 min varies Haggling
Careem about 100–200 EGP 15–35 min good Few cars at the airport
GoBus (Hurghada) small fraction of a car about 4.5–6 h coach seat Delays reported
Train (Aswan) much less than a car about 3.5 h varies by class Check the timetable

Questions travellers ask

How far is Luxor airport from the town?

Luxor International Airport is about 6–7 km east of the town center. By car it's about 15–25 minutes to the East Bank hotels and the cruise moorings on the Corniche, and about 25–35 minutes to the West Bank, because the road bridge is south of town.

How much is a taxi from Luxor airport?

Recent guides agree on roughly 150–250 EGP (about $3–5) to the East Bank once the fare is agreed, with opening quotes often at 300–400 EGP. Taxis aren't metered, so settle the price before loading the bags. A Careem ride is about 100–200 EGP when cars are available, but airport availability is inconsistent.

How long is the drive from Hurghada to Luxor?

About 280–300 km, which private transfers cover in about four hours. Buses take longer — roughly 4.5 to 6 hours with stops. If you're only coming for the sights, a day trip from Hurghada with the transfer built in is usually better value than a transfer plus a separate tour.

What is the best way to get from Luxor to Aswan?

By road, a private car takes about three hours on the desert highway, and private transfers start at about $80. The train takes about three and a half hours and costs much less. The slow way is the best — a Nile cruise takes three or four nights and stops at Edfu and Kom Ombo.

Is there a transfer from Luxor to Marsa Alam?

Yes — private cars run the roughly 300–350 km in about four to five hours, from about $136. The best-known listing has a lower rating than the other routes on this page, so read recent reviews. For a short visit from the coast, a two-day trip from Marsa Alam often makes more sense.

Are private transfer prices per person or per car?

It depends on the listing, and the "from" price is the lowest available. Enter your exact group size and dates on the booking page to see the total before you pay. For four or more people, compare the total with a minivan option, which most transfer listings offer.
