Is Memphis Tours good for Luxor?

Memphis Tours is a good choice for Luxor if you want everything — car, Egyptologist, entry tickets and lunch — in one price, and you're willing to pay for that. It is one of the oldest names in Egyptian tourism: the company says it began as a family business in Port Said in 1955 and is now headquartered in Giza, selling tailor-made trips in Egypt and more than 25 other destinations.

The license checks out. The Egyptian Travel Agents Association index lists Memphis for Tourism as a Category A company with license number 30, registered on 25 August 1955, with memphistours.com as its website. Few operators selling Luxor online have a record that old or that easy to match.

What Memphis Tours sells in Luxor and what it costs

All prices below are from Memphis's own Luxor pages, per person, in USD.

Tour Format Duration Price Tickets included? Best for
East & West Banks Private about 8 h $220 (1), $169 (2), $125 (6) Yes, plus lunch One full day, no admin
West Bank Private about 5 h from $80 Check the tour page Tombs before the heat
Karnak & Luxor temples Private about 4 h $89 (1), $65 (2), $45 (6) Yes An afternoon in town
Dendera & Abydos Private about 10 h from $69 Check the tour page A second day
Sound & Light at Karnak Small group about 2 h from $55 Check the tour page An evening
Hot-air balloon Balloon flight about 2 h from $139 — Sunrise
Nile cruise from Luxor Small group 5 days from $802 Check the cruise page Luxor to Aswan

The "from" figures are the six-person rate; two people pay noticeably more. The full-day price for two — $169 each, $338 together — includes tickets to Karnak, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple, plus lunch. Tutankhamun's tomb is not named in the inclusions, so ask.

How it compares with booking on a platform

The cheapest way to see the same sites is a shared tour from about $30 or a private day from about $80 a person on GetYourGuide, with entry tickets bought separately — our tickets guide lists what each site charges. For two people that usually comes in well under Memphis's $338, even after tickets and lunch. What you give up is the single all-inclusive invoice and Memphis's 24/7 phone support.

Platform alternatives for the same Luxor day

US-dollar prices come from each platform's own feed and were checked on October 21, 2026. Dates and group size change them — the booking page has the final price.

How booking, payment and cancellation work

  • Deposit: 25% to confirm; 50% over Christmas, New Year and Easter. The rest is due two days before arrival or in cash on arrival.
  • Cards: Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted, but card payments need a signed letter authorizing the charge, with a signature matching your card and passport.
  • Cancellation: the general terms charge 15% of the price from booking to 61 days out, 35% at 60–31 days, 50% at 30–15 days and 100% inside 14 days, plus a 5% bank fee on refunds. Peak-period charges are higher.
  • Day tours: the individual Luxor tour pages say Memphis waives fees for force majeure and otherwise passes on costs already incurred. Get the applicable rule in writing.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Category A license no. 30, verified, with a record going back to 1955
  • Per-person prices published by group size — no haggling
  • Entry tickets and lunch included on the main day tours
  • Covers Nile cruises and multi-day trips as well as day tours

Cons

  • Expensive for one or two people compared with platform tours
  • Strict cancellation scale on packages, plus a 5% refund fee
  • Card payments need a signed authorization letter
  • Tutankhamun's tomb not listed in the full-day inclusions

Verdict

Our score: 4.2 / 5. Memphis Tours is the most verifiable operator we reviewed and one of the most transparent about price: one number per person, tickets and lunch in. That earns it a high score. It loses points on value for couples and solo travelers, and on a cancellation scale that's tougher than a platform's. Families of five or six, and anyone combining Luxor with a cruise or a longer trip, get the most out of it.

Questions travellers ask

How much does Memphis Tours charge for a Luxor day tour?

Its private full day of both banks costs $220 for one person, $169 a person for two and $125 a person for six, with entry tickets to the listed sites, lunch, water, an English-speaking Egyptologist and hotel transfers included. A private half day at Karnak and Luxor Temple runs from $89 for one to $45 a person for six, entry fees included.

Is Memphis Tours licensed?

Yes. The Egyptian Travel Agents Association index lists Memphis for Tourism as a Category A company with license number 30, registered on 25 August 1955, and gives memphistours.com as its website. That matches the founding year the company publishes.

What is Memphis Tours' cancellation policy?

Its general terms charge 15% from booking until 61 days before arrival, 35% from 60 to 31 days, 50% from 30 to 15 days and 100% inside 14 days, plus a 5% bank fee on refunds. Christmas, New Year and Easter carry higher charges. Its tour pages also say day tours are only charged for costs already incurred — ask which rule applies before you pay.

How do you pay Memphis Tours?

A deposit of 25% secures most bookings, rising to 50% over Christmas, New Year and Easter. The balance is due two days before arrival or in cash on arrival. Card payments need a signed authorization letter whose signature matches your card and passport.

Is Memphis Tours worth it for Luxor?

It's worth it if you want one fixed price with tickets and lunch included and a company with seven decades of history behind it. For a single Luxor day on a budget, a platform tour plus tickets bought at the gate costs noticeably less for two people.
